VirtualBox 7.1.0 is Released With the Modern GUI

VirtualBox 7.1.0 is now available for everyone, and it has many changes, upgrades, and bug fixes. Starting with the UI changes, the new update has completely modernized VirtualBox’s look to offer a useful UI for beginners and experts. VirtualBox 7.1.0 has improved the screen recording to a much better level to help improve the encoding pipeline to lower CPU usage while recording.

This update provides complete GUI accessibility and also updates Qt. A new NAT engine is supported for IPv6. The latest update improves Arm virtualization for Linux VMs. Also, some changes in OCI integration occur with cloning and resetting instances, and resource usage from cloud VMs will now be included in the performance dashboard.

This update includes removing the evaluation option from the setup and updating the VirtualBox extension service along with its embedding of the PUEL license. It also modified the VirtualBox Remote Desktop Extension, VRDE, to include configuration with custom certificates to configure TLS.

A new support system exists for transferring files on Linux and Windows hosts/guests. However, you must install 7.1 Guest Additions to use the file transfer support. The new VirtualBox 7.1 has added Wayland support to introduce Clipboard sharing between host and guest.

With this release, you can add new Microsoft DB/KEX certificates. New in the Latest Release: API bindings for Python 2.x are now deprecated and will be removed in a future version. As a consequence, we would recommend that you upgrade your code to Python 3.

VirtualBox 7.1 supports cloud-init-based installers to install more Linux-based guest operating systems in unattended mode. The new update also lets you specify separate passwords for users and admins. With the new VirtualBox, you will get a new option in VBoxManage to show and attach to recording the progress of the Virtual Machine.

VBoxManage adds a new option to query the guest’s mount points through the new “mount” Guest Control subcommand. However, it needs a minimum of 7.1 Guest Additions.

With all the new feature updates, the latest update has fixed the EFLAGS.TF handling during the Hyper-V usage. There are a few more fixes for pfSense 2.6.0 and FreeBSD 12.3.
