Wireshark 4.4 Released with LZ4 Compression, Auto Profile Switching, and Enhanced Graphs

Wireshark 4.4 is now live with many enhancements and significantly advanced features. This open-source network protocol analyzer features enhanced graphing functionality, an auto flow capture system based on profiles, support for new protocols, and additional capabilities.

This new update focuses on enhancing the important features of Wireshark and includes some additional modifications for users. Let’s find it out:

What’s New in the Wireshark 4.4 Update

With this update, Wireshark will no longer support Lua 5.1 and 5.2. The new versions of Lua can manage various compression types, so Wireshark 4.4 now supports Lua 5.3 and 5.4 to improve the modern scripting feature. The Wireshark development team has optimized the initialization of the interface for a faster startup process.

Wireshark 4.4 has an automatic profile-switching feature to display filters automatically with the configuration profiles. This feature can also improve data set management through the improved analysis process. With the profile switching, the Wireshark 4.4 update has a new display filter system. Moreover, Wireshark now supports LZ4 compression for fast responsiveness during captures.

With the new update, Wireshark supports a wide range of graphic features to enhance network analysis visualization. Hence, you can now use different graphic features like I/O graphs, call and flow graphs, and improved memory utilization. The Wireshark 4.4 update includes IoT, Monero, and Bluetooth protocols. Furthermore, the new update also has some new protocols, such as ATN Security Label, MatterBTP, etc.

Wireshark 4.4 contains the column and output fields. It also lets you define the columns from this update to get your preferred report. This feature can also define the output fields on the TShark (a Wireshark command-line tool).

Finally, Wireshark 4.4 has updated capture interfaces to improve the capability of the Wireshark tool.

You can download Wireshark 4.4.0 from their official website or get the flatpak version from Flathub. We suggest looking for official release notes to know more about its new release with key improvements.
