No doubt that the best gift of AI technology in 2023 is ChatGPT. Even if it was available in early 2022, this year, people get used to this tool in both their professional and personal lives. Even many of us are replacing Google with this quick and reliable AI chatting tool. However, AI engineers have produced many other tools we can use as ChatGPT alternatives. People often look for them, especially when the ChatGPT server is down or temporarily unavailable.
Well, if you are also looking for some ChatGPT alternatives, just stop looking back. Here, I am going to introduce you to the 10 best options that can help you for both your professional and educational purposes.
Best ChatGPT Alternatives You Can Use for Research and Personal Use
Before we begin, let me remind you that I have made this list completely from my experience of using so many chatbot tools. I can’t tell you that these tools can surpass ChatGPT when it comes to the user interface, authenticity in facts, and reliability. Still, these tools are pretty much competitive and helpful, sometimes more than CHatGPT.
So, these tools can be the best apps for students, writers, and researchers. As they have different specialized features, you better check the details to choose the right tool you need.
1. Google Bard AI/Gemini
If you are looking for information for specific purposes like you do in ChatGPT, then Gemini can be a great alternative. But I won’t recommend you use information from this AI information provider directly on research as it often copies information from different sources. Even though the sources from what Gemini collects info are reliable, they are often copied from 50% to 70%.
So, if using direct information is not necessary, and you just want to know the facts, use Gemini. I really like this tool for its authenticity and speed. It works really fast, and you can direct it to get an accurate answer. Distinguished by its foundation on Alphabet’s proprietary AI system, Google Gemini.AI stands apart from many chatbots utilizing open-source GPT-3 or GPT-4 models.
As Google launched this tool, the system might have access to Google’s latest information, unlike ChatGPT. That’s why Google Gemini won’t apologize to you for not being updated recently. In that case, you can count it better than ChatGPT as well.
2. Bing AI Chat
For a few days last month, ChatGPT was not running well on my system, and I needed to use it for some research. That was when I first used Bing AI Chat. And I am fully satisfied with the performance of this bot chatting tool. I really loved the customization option on this tool that is not available in ChatGPT.
You can choose the length of the answers and their language tone and direct them for specific usage like for a blog post, article, etc. From my findings, I don’t think Bing copies a lot from other websites. That means it tries to make unique answers for you.
Also, Bing works pretty fast, even sometimes faster than ChatGPT. But I didn’t like its interface at all. I used it on my Microsoft Edge platform, and it appeared on the right side. And I couldn’t scroll up or down when it was generating my answers. Besides, you may not like the tone of the language Bing produces, which is not as natural as ChatGPT.
3. Jasper Chat
If you like to have complete control over the chatbot, Jasper Chat can be the best ChatGPT alternative for you. This AI chatbot is full of customizing options, unlike ChatGPT. It is proficient in responding to inquiries, generating complete blog articles, refining email communication, and whatever you ask in any language tone you select.
While working on this AI tool, I was pretty surprised at how flexible it is for people who want to direct every section while generating content. That means it will stop after writing a few sentences and then let you give it direction for the next two or three sentences. So, you will have options to change the tone and subject in every two to three sentences.
This matter of flexibility made this one very much unique to me. However, there are sufficient reasons why you may not like it. First of all, it’s not free. Also, it has limitations like frequent copying, and it needs extensive fact-checking as well. Besides, without sufficient input, the content produced by Jasper Chat can be deliberately repetitive or generic.
4. Perplexity AI
There’s a very specific reason why Perplexity AI is my favorite AI bot, and I am pretty sure that I use Perplexity more than any other AI bot, including ChatGPT. The reason is its mentioned sources. That means from wherever it takes the information for you, it will simply note the website link almost after every sentence and source it exposes.
So, you don’t need to go for fact-checking as it adds the source websites with the content. The next part I like about this ChatGPT alternative is its interface, which is full of minimalism and simplicity. Moreover, the option of a sleek dark mode will make you feel comfortable with it for sure.
It’s my favorite, and it doesn’t mean it’s the best. For a few reasons, you may not like it. Whenever you copy text from this tool, the reference website number will be inside the text. There are extra spaces, too, that you’ll need to delete to get the actual text. Besides, the text mostly fails in the Copyscape result as they are mostly copied from the mentioned websites.
5. Claude 2
You can also try Claude 2, the latest production of Anthropic. It emerges as a compelling alternative to ChatGPT in the AI chatbot arena. It is backed by Google, and Anthropic has endowed Claude 2 with a unique approach that distinguishes it from traditional LLM models.
For your reference, Claude relies on a blend of proprietary AI techniques like neural networks and extensive training data. Thus offering natural and meaningful conversations. But I like it more for its wallet-friendly pricing close to GPT-4. Also, I love its accessible system that can be managed via a website.
When using it, I was able to utilize its prowess for intricate content and code generation, puzzle-solving, humor, general chit-chat, and even precise text extraction from file attachments. Moreover, Claude 2’s offline operation comes with data privacy, which simply makes it different from its internet-dependent counterparts.
6. OpenAI GPT Playground
Want to play with text with the chatbots? Just try OpenAI Playground. It’s another form of OpenAI’s prowess in AI content creation. This versatile platform, powered by the same AI system as ChatGPT, will give you a reliable experience with its focus on content generation.
Among all its features, what seemed the best to me was its adaptable AI modes. This feature will simply let you switch between chatbot interactions, Q&A sessions, and storytelling sessions. While editing content for research, this chatbot offered me high-quality responses that I don’t usually find in any other tools.
You can expand, edit, or rewrite text, all while adjusting response parameters to control complexity and repetitiveness. However, to access OpenAI Playground, you will need an OpenAI account, though initial use is free. After using up the free credits, you have to purchase some credits to use continuously.
7. Poe by Quora
Quora Poe was introduced in early 2023 and has the potential to become a compelling alternative to ChatGPT for you. Poe, short for ‘Platform for Open Exploration,’ simply introduced itself as a comprehensive hub for AI bots.
Unlike its namesake, Quora, Poe doesn’t rely on Quora’s question-answer data. Indeed, it offers a unique space for users to interact with AI-powered bots, and I appreciate this part of Poe very much. The platform comes with a minimalist interface and gives access to a lot of AI models like Sage, ChatGPT, and Claude+.
Most of the AI tools need a subscription, and here, Poe comes with minimal downtime and guarantees uninterrupted conversations. I found a notable convenience, which is the single-account access to multiple AI services. It makes it a one-stop destination for enthusiasts who need to use similar tools to ChatGPT.
8. YouChat
I found YouChat from a friend’s recommendation, and I couldn’t agree more with his statement that it’s the most compelling alternative to ChatGPT. This innovative tool simplifies internet searches by providing friendly bot responses to questions. In my opinion, it excels in code generation to offer real-time assistance and coding responses.
So, it can be very helpful to programmers who look for accurate coding solutions. This tool will let you give direction to produce content based on specified parameters like tone, audience, and key points. You can switch tabs effortlessly to access search results, images, videos, news, and social media posts on the same topic.
However, this tool has some limitations, too. You may need to create an account to use most of its features. Also, free users have to face a lot of limitations too. You can produce up to 10 pieces of content a day with its free version. From my take, YouChat is quite a promising ChatGPT alternative for any AI enthusiasts.
9. Chatsonic
The next one is Chatsonic, another powerful alternative to ChatGPT. It has gained prominence for its expansive and customizable features. Chatsonic is built upon the ChatGPT foundation. While keeping the vast potential of its predecessor, it is set apart with some rare features. Like Perplexity, this tool also provides the sources, so you don’t need to spend time fact-checking.
This AI chatbot will always remember your previous conversations, and from the history, you can bring back your necessary information effortlessly. It also comes with a database of 16 personas, which simply seemed more interesting to me.
Along with text generation, there is an integrated image generator that will transform your prompts into decent images. It generously offers 25 free daily generations, and for more, you have to get their packages. Besides, you can access it via a browser extension. The Android app further makes the pie even sweeter.
10. Pi, your personal AI
Finally, it’s Pi, your personal AI. Well, I listed this tool specifically for its unique and engaging conversational approach. From my perspective, Pi’s interactions unfold dialogue by dialogue system, which is rare to get. Besides, I can’t help appreciating its ability to initiate conversations and respond in a pretty natural way.
While using this tool, I found around four realistic voice options, which is very comforting. Pi is exceptional for its therapeutic approach to conversations. To me, it sounds quite realistic and human-like. For this approach, I can’t replace Pi with another option while listing these ChatGPT alternatives.
To use this tool, you will need to create an account and provide a working phone number for sign-up. Also, I didn’t like the tone and word choice of this tool from time to time. Well, it might pose a drawback for you, but if you seek a personal AI chatbot with a unique and engaging conversational style, Pi will be the right one for you.
Wrapping Up
We are at the edge of our discussion. These are the best ChatGPT alternatives, and among these options, I found Perplexity AI, Bing, and Google Gemini, which are the most competitive and useful for my profession and personal queries. Remember that these tools are good for queries and research only, and you should ensure fact-checking while using the produced text in professional and educational sections.
However, I have made the list completely from my experience of using a lot of chatbot tools that try to mirror ChatGPT. So, I can’t guarantee that you’ll love them too. There are many other tools like LaMDA, Socratic, NeevaA, etc., and you might find them even more handy.
Well, let us know which one is your favorite one. Also, let your friends know about these ChatGPT alternatives too. Thank you.
