Get Opera Internet Browser for Ubuntu Linux via Snap Package

Opera internet browser is one of the oldest web browser available in the market. It’s fast, secure and feature-rich internet browser which is based on Google’s open-source Chromium project. Though it’s run on Google’s Chrome-based but yet it has added some unique features and tweaks for better user experience. Though Opera internet browser is not the best and most popular mobile or desktop web browser out there, but yet it’s too robust and compatible across every devices and platform.

It offers some impressive tools and features to ensure utmost security and privacy. Opera internet browser is an open source software, so if you want to know how to program, you can use or modify the code with your unique tools and features.

Opera has a clean and modern sleek interface with fast launch and page load times. Though it has a different design than others in the market, you will like it when you get used to this web browser. Recently; Opera team has announced that you can install it on any Linux distribution using Snap package. For your information, Snap is a containerized software package which can be used across the Linux distros. It comes with most required dependencies and auto updates itself. So the question may come where do I find Snap packages and is my system is enabled for using Snap?

In this short tutorial, I will show you how to install Snap packages and from where to get that software as a snap package. If you are using Ubuntu 17.10 or above, then you don’t need to bother about enabling Snap packages as the system supports automatically. But if you are in an older version, then follow my tutorial on how to install software in Linux for enabling snap package in your system.

You can get Snap packages from both distro specific software center or Canonical’s Snapcraft app store. Here I will show you how to get Opera internet browser snap package from Ubuntu software center and snapcraft app store. Search opera in Ubuntu software center or Snapcraft app store and hit the install button.

sudo snap install opera
