So, what exactly happened in the latest update, and why did Google do it? Here are the insights:

What Exactly Happened in the New Google Chrome Update?

Google released an update on 22nd August, which was supposed to be a regular update. After the update, many users started noticing that they could not use Chrome after updating it in their Ubuntu 18.04 system.

Ubuntu 18.04 has LTS until 2028, and the Google Chrome help page also shows that Chrome is supported in this OS. However, this update has caused problems for developers because many environments rely on Ubuntu 18.04 due to the stability.

Google has officially released a statement that the decision to end support for Ubuntu 18.04 was incorrect. They also clarified that the upcoming Chrome update will definitely restore support for Ubuntu 18.04. Hence, as an Ubuntu 18.04 user, you can relax and wait for the next update.

Google’s decision to end support without prior notice left many users searching for solutions to use Google Chrome on their systems. Although you can still use Chrome 128, it requires manual installation and many tweaks, so please try it at your own risk.
